Attraction Details

Bowker's Kop was the favourite camp site of Miles Robert Bowker, one of the early hunters who used to hunt in the area that is now the Kruger National Park. His brother Alec Bowker and cousin Charlie White, torgether with Fred and Harry Barber, the founders of Barberton, often accompanied Miles Bowker on his hunting expeditions. The hill used to have two large baobabs on it when these early hunters used it as a base, but one of these baobabs died in the early 1980s as a result of damage caused by elephants. In the early 1950s the Bowker family erected a marble memorial tablet at the base of the hill.
